Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... |
X (formerly Twitter) has recently launched a highly anticipated feature: the ability to edit direct messages (DMs). This update, which began rolling out over the weekend, is now available for iOS users and will soon be accessible on other platforms.
- Open the X App: Start by opening any direct message chat in the X app on your iOS device.
- Select the Message: Long press on the message you’ve sent or tap the three-dot menu next to the message you want to edit.
- Edit the Message: Choose the “Edit message” option to make changes to your sent message.
This new feature provides users with greater flexibility, allowing them to correct mistakes or update information in their DMs. Unlike some other platforms, X does not impose a time limit for editing messages.
X has set a few limits to ensure message integrity. You can edit a message up to five times, and these edits apply to both messages and posts. X keeps a log of edited messages for security purposes but does not currently display a version history to users.
X’s new editing feature aligns it with popular messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Messenger, all of which have offered message editing for some time. Apple’s iMessage also introduced message editing with iOS 16, reflecting a trend toward more flexible communication tools.
This feature is expected to enhance the user experience on X by making conversations smoother and more accurate. As X continues to expand this functionality to other platforms, it will likely become a standard feature for users who want better control over their conversations.
Keep an eye out for updates as X rolls out this feature more broadly. By adding message editing, X addresses a key user request and aligns itself with modern messaging practices.
The ability to edit direct messages represents a significant upgrade for X. It meets a long-standing user demand and brings the platform in line with current industry standards. As X evolves, users can look forward to more features that enhance usability and functionality.
